“In modernizing ["Bicycle Thieves"], Iranian-born director Milad Tangshir imbues his version with both contemporary cultural nuances and a unique perspective as an immigrant to Italy, resulting in a remake that stands apart.” – Variety
Issa is a young illegal immigrant who tries to survive in Turin as best he can. After he is fired by his old employer, he starts working as a delivery bike rider, but his luck ends when, during a delivery, the bicycle he just bought is stolen. Issa begins a desperate odyssey through the streets of the city to find his bike.
In this worthy reimagining of the Italian neorealist classic Bicycle Thieves (1948), director Milad Tangshir has put a spotlight on the plight of a Senegalese immigrant whose tenuous status is made all the urgent by a cruel twist of fate. At its centre is a compelling performance from first-time actor Ibrahima Sambou, who conveys Issa’s growing desperation through his expressive eyes, which Tangshir doesn’t waste. Tense and heartbreaking in equal measures, Anywhere, Anytime packs an emotional punch in its brisk runtime.
