Nina

Australian Premiere

“An intelligent, blood-red western.” – La razón

Shades of Hitchcock, Almodóvar and Tarantino abound in this taut and stylish thriller from Spanish director Andrea Jaurrieta, which upends the classic trope of a stranger blowing into town to give it a compellingly modern twist.

Nina returns to her coastal hometown with a shotgun in her bag and one clear aim: to exact revenge on Pedro, a famous writer who the town is planning a celebration for. The journey home stirs up dark and painful memories, spurning Nina to plan out the long overdue justice on the man who stole her childhood. Along the way, she reconnects with a childhood sweetheart and is swept into a murky moral quagmire which forces her to question whether revenge is the only path.

For her assured second feature, Jaurrieta (Ana by Day) renews her interest in the theme of broken identities and employs Goya Award-winning actress Patricia López Arnaiz, who shines as the foul-mouthed and steely anti-heroine of this lush revisionist Western.
