When Lars Hammar retires after 40 years as a beloved French teacher in Köping, he envisions a lovely "third age" filled with travel, wine and precious time with his wife Tiina ahead of him. But it doesn't turn out the way he planned. Instead of enjoying the good things in life, Lars becomes increasingly passive and recalcitrant at home in his leather armchair, to the great frustration and despair of both Tiina and their son Filip. Then Filip gets an idea: to take his frail old father to his beloved France to revisit the places he loved most in life. Filip enlists his best friend Fredrik, and the trio hit the road in an old orange Renault 4.
