“One of the most entertaining and crowd-pleasing slasher films of the 2020s.” – Collider
“A delightful mix that strikes the right balance of ’80s horror nostalgia and fresh, modern creativity.” – Deadline
Co-written, co-directed by and starring two actors who are well-versed in nostalgic horror reboots, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, It) and Billy Bryk (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), this summer camp slasher pays loving tribute to classics like Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp.
Jason (Fred Hechinger, Gladiator II) is a 24-year-old camp counsellor returning to Camp Pineway for another summer, despite judgement from his much-younger colleagues who think he’s a little too old for camp. When a masked killer starts picking off counsellors one by one, everyone immediately suspects Jason (it’s in the name, right?). Everyone except Claire (Abby Quinn, Knock at the Cabin), the only one who finds Jason’s earnestness endearing. Will the group figure out who the killer is before the bodies pile up?
Hell of a Summer is a post-modern horror-comedy romp that’s aware of all the classic genre tropes, and gleefully subverts them with a wink and a cheeky grin. One hell of a fun time for our 2025 Opening Night.
