Part found footage and part documentary, the film blurs the lines between reality and fiction to a seriously mystifying extent. It follows indie filmmakers Rachel Kempf and Nick Toti (the co-directors, playing versions of themselves), a married couple who are horror movie obsessed. After buying a decrepit house in the suburbs of Missouri, intending to use it as a set for their next film, Rachel and Nick soon get the sense – much to their delight – that the house is actually haunted.

When Rachel and her friend Christian (also playing himself) decide to hold a séance, their ecstatic investigation of the house’s creepy corners sets off a spiraling series of events and some of the most terrifying horror set pieces in recent memory.
